Description

Princeton Theological Seminary professor and theologian, Dr. J. Gresham Machen, was a courageous and discerning Christian who spoke boldly about the evils of centralized government-controlled education, toward the beginning of the 20th century. Centralization of education, under a federal department of education, was opposed by Dr. J. Gresham Machen. In 1926, Dr. Machen testified to Congress and US Senate in Washington DC when the Dept. of Education was first being considered. Dr. Machen said, “Uniformity in education under central control seems to me, is the worst fate into which any country can fall.”

Almost fifty years after J. Gresham Machen’s death, Trinity Foundation compiled Dr. Machen’s writings in a fabulous book called “Education, Christianity and the State.” Find this important work on amazon.com.

The principle of all the advocates of government education is that the standardization in education is a good thing. Machen disagreed with this. As we now experience, if the whole Federal Department of Education is putting out bad ideas, everybody suffers; the government just raises our taxes and keeps promoting their bad ideas.

Part of our concern with Christians who want to be evangelists in public schools, is that they don’t see that the State model is against parents rearing and educating their children.

We’re calling for the repeal of Federally-controlled education.
