Why did the Pilgrims and Puritans come to America? They came for the glory of God and the propagation of the Christian faith. They were setting up a Christian nation.

The pilgrims came to America to save their children from evil. They wanted their posterity to be devoted to God, and could see the influence of evil on their children where they lived. You could say that America was founded for Christian education of the children. I’d like to put forward the idea that we can be re-founded, renewed, rediscovering what the Pilgrims knew about their devotion to God.

William Bradford, the 2nd governor in Plymouth, MA, cherished a great hope of inward zeal, with the goal of at least making progress toward the Kingdom of God, in the remote parts of the world. Even though they would be a stepping stone in the path of others.
It was also for evangelization that these people came.

The Forefathers Monument, in Plymouth, MA, dedicated in 1889, is a shrine of remembrance; showing our Christian heritage begun on the shores of Massachusetts.

Squanto seems to be divinely placed in New England at the time of the founding, to help guide them and survive the harsh weather as the Puritans were settling.  Squanto knew how to speak English, because he had been taken to England as a captive and had become a Christian.

God causes all things to work together for good, to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
